Paragon Security has successfully delivered a sophisticated access control https://paragon-security.com/product/wireless-locks/ solution for a newly refurbished luxury shared office space in the heart of Mayfair, using Abloy’s SMARTair https://www.assaabloy.com/uk/en/solutions/topics/access-control/smartair wireless access control system to provide secure, flexible and efficient building management for both landlord and tenants.

The project was carried out in a seven-storey Georgian building dating back to 1699. Following an extensive refurbishment, the client was keen to preserve the historic character of the property – whilst introducing modern security technology. Satin brass door hardware was selected throughout to complement the building’s heritage interiors, requiring an access control system that could integrate seamlessly – without compromising aesthetics.
Alongside visual considerations, the client required a robust solution capable of real-time monitoring and multi-user management across multiple access points. These included main entrances, individual offices, cupboard doors and external areas such as plant rooms and the bicycle store. The system also needed to support both proximity card and, in some cases, card-plus-PIN authentication.
Due to the building’s high ceilings and decorative features, installing traditional wired access control was not feasible. A wireless solution was therefore essential ensuring fast installation and future scalability. SMARTair was selected as it met all the client’s requirements – whilst preserving the architectural integrity of the building.

Paragon Security installed 35 SMARTair wireless escutcheons, including units with integrated PIN keypads, along with SMARTair wall readers for the main external doors. The system operates using MIFARE Classic EV1 credentials and provides seamless access control throughout the building.
Using the SMARTair wireless online system, building management can monitor access in real time, control who enters specific areas and when, and remotely unlock doors via the SMARTair client software, Web Manager or mobile app. Lost credentials or tenant changes can be managed instantly.
Custom metal access control cards, branded to reflect the premium nature of the space were supplied to tenants, visitors and staff. Access rights can be granted or revoked quickly and efficiently, ensuring smooth daily operations.

The wireless design enabled rapid installation directly onto pre-prepared doors, significantly reducing installation time and avoiding disruption to the building fabric. The system’s scalability ensures it can easily be expanded as tenant needs evolve.
SMARTair also provides detailed audit trails and tracking, offering enhanced security, compliance and visibility across the building.
